Pottery slam in Benyamini ceramics, Tel Aviv

It's been a long time since I posted something on the blog… And a long time since I joined the sketchcrawl group. I had no idea what we were going to draw when I went to meet my fellow sketchers in the Benyamini ceramics center in Tel Aviv. Pottery ? People sat in front of a table modeling a peace of mud ? After the first estonishment discovering an artist demonstrating her talent on a potter's wheel and everybody around trying to capture the ryhtme of her hands modeling the pots, I finally sat and join the crowd in this hypnotic observation.

I chose my tools, it had to be simple, a bit dirty even… pencil and maybe a touch of color, to respect the organic simplicity of clay, trying to find a way out to an other form of existence.

The first potter was precise, quick, concentrated. She made a big amount of small delicate bowls and bottles that she alined, at the end creating unexpected families of forms.

After this demonstration, another person arrived. The style was… different. The man in red was tall, musceled but very skiny, all made of angles. He looked like a road sign and worked straight away on a big peace. I felt that he imposed himself to the material : moving a lot, turning around, standing, sitting, using firing (with the help of an assistant). The energy was definitly different but not less fascinating than the lady before. Without speaking about this very graphical red clothe, thanks for this choice !
