Brides and grooms

I went to draw in the old city of Jaffa and I was amazed by the amount of groups of bride, groom and bride maids who are coming to be pictured by photographers in this area… All make up, dressed and at the top of their… heals they walk insecure with their balance on the irregular stone floor of the gardens and the old city. It makes for me the best subject to draw, trying to catch the funny "little stories" out of it.

Mosques in Istanbul, Turkey / Part 3

Here is a last post about my trip in Istanbul, Turkey beginning of july… A first drawing trying to catch the atmosphere of the street, a game of baggamon, houses built on the top of each other. Then a walk in the huge Gran bazar of Istanbul:  its 4.000 shops and 12.000 people working there daily. After that, I tried different ways to draw the mosques, so many, so beautiful… a great way to say goodbye at night  to Istanbul :  a fish and salad on the bank of the Bosporus, watching and drawing the mosque

Area where we staid : Beyoglu, european side
The Gran Bazar and its beautiful alleys

Sultanahmet Camii, the Blue Mosque
Last night in Istanbul, a dinner on the bank of the Bosporus, a mosque every kilometer

Topkapi Palace, Istanbul - Turkey / Part 2

Topkapi Palace is a great place to draw:  a lot of visitors for the ones who love to draw people, magnificent objects for those who like patterns and fabrics and amazing buildings and decorations.
Not enough time to really go deep in all these subjects but some little sketches just to remind myself to go back there…

Habima, Tel Aviv

Here is my production during the sketchcrawl in Habima Tel Aviv.

I didn't concentrate so much on the people this time, as I did it already by myself few months ago in Habima… I decided to work more on the architecture and the environment which is very interesting over there.
I amused myself working on an exercise : trying to play with "the full and the empty"…
It's actually interesting to decided to target your series of drawings with a intention : to choose an subject to follow and do your drawings according to this subject. Shadows, line of sky, movement, whatever. I found it helpfull to get your attention going in one direction as your doing your sketch and not doing the same technique and drawing again and again in the same way with the same final effect.

Sabres, this plant that gives fruits that represent the israelies : prickly outside and soft inside...

Back to Loveat

Hi everybody !

Waiting for the next sketchcrawl in Abima Tel Aviv, I went back yesterday to Loveat, at the port of Jaffa where we had our last meeting, and I drew a bit the funny people enjoying like me their cup of coffee with their excellent muffin cranberries-white chocolat (I definitely recommand them !).

Funny woman with black and red hair, wearing fancy shoes

Young and hairy girl with big hat

An other drawing made in the Restaurant Suzanna, in Neve Tsedek…

Flowers on my son's "kishkoushim" !
