Sketching in Jaffa

בא לשכונה בחור חדש.....

שלום חברים,
אני חדש בקבוצה, שוק הפשפשים הוא לי המפגש השני, ובכלל- אני חדש בתל-אביב. הכל עדיין נראה לי טרי ושונה, ועם זאת מדובר בישראל. חייתי פה כ-32 שנים ואני אוהב את המוכר והישן. עם זאת, פעמים מעטות מדיי נעצרתי להביט, לא סתם להסתכל, ולתרגם את המציאות לנייר. ניקח את מקרה שוק הפשפשים משישי האחרון כהסבר לכך שפשוט מאוד קשה לי לשבת ולרשום קצת מציאות: מאות אנשים, אלפי פרטי סחורה צבעוניים, תנועה מתמדת, קקפוניה ארכיטקטונית. איך לעזאזל אפשר לתאר את הכל? על אילו פרטים מוותרים? כשאני סוף סוף מניח את העיפרון על הנייר אני שונא את מה שיוצא. אבל אני קשוח, שירתתי בקרבי, אני לא אוותר! ואני עושה עוד רישום. ועוד אחד. מנסה להתיש את המבקר הפנימי. ולאט לאט אני מתחיל אפילו להנות. בתום שלוש השעות אני כבר תשוש. אבל שמח. אני מרגיש שכל ניסיון כזה לתאר את המציאות על הנייר משפר את יכולותיי כמאייר ובהחלט עוזר לי ללמוד להבין וגם לאהוב את הבלגן בו אנחנו חיים.

I'm new to the group, the “Flea Market” is only my second encounter with Y'all, but I'm also quite new in Tel-Aviv. Everything still seems fresh and different, but still - it is Israel we're talking about - I've lived here about 32 years and I love the old and familiar. However, it is not too often that I stop to observe, not just to look, and to translate reality onto paper. Using last Friday's Flea Market meeting as an example, I'll try to explain why is it so very hard for me to just sit down and sketch some reality: hundreds of people, thousands of colorful merchandise pieces , constant movement, architectural cacophony. How the hell can one sketch it all? What details should I drop out? When I finally start moving the pencil on the paper I hate what comes out. But hey, I'm tough, I served in “Kravi”, I will not give up easily! And I try again. And again. Essentially I'm trying to wear down the internal critic. And then, little by little I begin to enjoy the process. After three hours I'm quite exhausted. But pleased. I feel that this attempt to describe the reality on paper improves my abilities as an illustrator and certainly helps me learn to understand and love the mess in which we live.

שני רישומים שעשיתי השבוע בחופי תל אביב. אין על חוף הים! זה אחת הדברים הטובים שיש לנו פה, ותמיד יש פה מה לשרבט :)

Hemek Hamatzleva - Jerusalem

I discovered a beautiful place I didn't know in Jerusalem, a greek monastery overlooking the valley of Hemek Hamatzleva. At first it looked very severe but what you see inside is not what you would have expected outside : the interesting rhythm of the different levels, the church is simply beautiful with a lot of colorful and naive paintings... We should definitely organize a meeting there with the group

מוזיקת קנטרי, בלוז, בלוגראס, מוזיקה אירית ועוד... על חוף גינוסר. שפע הזדמנויות לרישום המופיעים והקהל.

ביקור בבה"ד 1

השבוע בני הבחור סיים קורס קצינים, מה שהביא אותי עם כל ההמשפחה לבה"ד 1 אי שם ליד מצפה רמון. היה מרגש. והיה הרבה זמן המתנה והמון מודלים ציוריים, אז חלקם הצלחתי לצוד בתוך הסקטצ'בוק שלי.

רישומים בימי חמסין

קשה לצאת מהבית בימים חמים אלה,לכן חיפשתי מה לצייר מהבית-מחדר ממוזג.כרגיל הציור היה מול עיני-ולא שמתי לב.העץ מחוץ לחלון התמלא בעלים-עלים קטנטנים -ויצר ניגוד צבעוני  וצורני לבתים שמאחוריו.רישום אחד עם צבעים והשני בצבע אחד.
